No room at the Sutherland Hotel expected
A major new development that was given approval in March last year for Sutton town centre is now in doubt.
The developers, Criterion, had submitted an application that included proposals for a large hotel, housing and retail development to replace Sutherland House in Brighton Road. Leisure and conference facilities were also part of the grand scheme which was expected to bring a high number of job opportunities to the area.
But now, Criterion has started new talks with Sutton Council over a far more conservative scheme which will now exclude the hotel and have reduced retail space.
A spokesman for Sutton Council has confirmed the receipt of the new application and that ‘we are awaiting further information before it can be validated.”
